Olubadan declares Sarkin Sasa title illegal, affirms Baale sole authority
The Olubadan of Ibadan land, His Imperial Majesty Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, has nullified the title of “Sarkin Sasa,” declaring it unrecognised under the Ibadan Traditional Chieftaincy Law.
This declaration, according to a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the monarch, was made during the Olubadan-in-Council meeting held at the monarch’s palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan, on Monday.
Oba Olakulehin reaffirmed Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa as the duly recognised Baale of Sasa, in Akinyele Local Government Area, and the official representative of the Olubadan in the community.
“Let it be clearly stated that all residents and stakeholders in Sasa are subject to the authority of Chief Akinade Ajani Amusa, the Baale of Sasa. He is to be accorded the full respect and obedience due to his office.
“Any act of defiance or insubordination towards his directives will be treated as a direct affront to the stool of the Olubadan and will attract strict sanctions,” the monarch warned.
The clarification follows the recent event on March 8, 2025, when the 8th-day Fidau prayer for the late Alhaji Haruna Maiyasin Kastina in Sasa, Ibadan, was reportedly used as an occasion to turban his son, Ciroma, as the new Sarkin Sasa without the approval of the Olubadan.
