The Ilorin Emirate Magaji and Alangua Forum on Thursday said the next state Governor should come from the Ilorin emirate, regardless of political affiliations.
The forum made its decision known in a statement signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Abdulwahab Ajagusi and the Secretary, Alhaji Salihu Woru-Mohammed in Ilorin.
“The forum wants the next state Governor to emerge from Kwara Central, considering the present emerging political scenario Kwarans found themselves in the state,” the two officials said
The forum called on prominent indigenes of the emirate to interface with contestants, to choose the best candidate from Kwara central to contest for the next governorship election in the state.
The forum said picking the next governor from Kwara central would douse political tension in the state.
It reaffirmed its determination to work round the clock for the successful conduct of the 2019 general elections.
The Magajis and Alanguas implored the people of the state to maintain peace and harmony the state was noted for by voting for the candidates of their choice during the elections
Reacting to the statement, the Chairman Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state, Alhaji Bashir Bolarinwa, said the decision to elect a candidate for the next Governor lied with party members.
Speaking in similar vein, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Alhaji Kola Shittu, said the delegates at the primary would decide candidate for the party.
Our correspondent, reports that APC had fixed Saturday for the conduct of primary election for the 12 aspirants seeking for number one political seat in the state
“It is normal for a forum or group to agitate and request but the decision cannot come from me as the chairman.
“The decision will be taken by delegates at indirect primary of the party,” Shittu said
