Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu,SAN, has assured that no citizen of the state would be left to bear the brunt of any unfortunate circumstance.
Reacting to the fatal accident in Akungba Akoko at the weekend which claimed the lives of some residents of the town and students, the governor said upon due consultations, the state government would come up with lasting solution to the incessant road carnage in the university town.
The governor who was represented by a Delegation led by his Chief of Staff, Chief Olugbenga Ale expressed shock at the incident and described it as devastating and saddening.
The leader of the delegation said the governor, who was outside the state had to direct him to visit the scene to condole with victims, care for the injured and give assurances that the state government would aggregate all suggestions so far put up to end incessant road garnage in Akungba Akoko.
The accident which Police authority in the state said had so far claimed nine lives as at Sunday morning among which were students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, was reportedly caused by an articulated truck laden with cement coming from an unknown location outside the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami who confirmed the number of casualties pleaded with motorists to remain calm as the police would not want to engage the youths in any form of confrontation that will aggravate the already tensed situation arising from the loss of lives in the accident.
In the meantime, youths in the town have made the town inaccessible to motorists following the fatal accident.
The delegation of the governor which was joined by the Alale of Akungba, Oba Isaac Adeyeye and the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, who had earlier been prevented to move beyond the Iwaro-Oka Junction, made efforts to placate the youths to allow the federal road resume vehicular movements.
The Chairman of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Dr. Tunji Abayomi, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Hon, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye and the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo were part of the delegation of the governor.
