The Vice-Chancellor, Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo State Professor Olanrewaju Ademola Olaniyan has reiterated his determination to take the university to an enviable height where the university will achieve greatness and be rated as one of the best universities in Nigeria.
He made this assertion on Monday, when the Lagos State University team led by Prof. Mubasiru Olayiwola. Mohammed, visited the university to discuss the possibility of Lagos State University, Ojo deploying and training staff of the University on GNS E-learning platform software of Lagos State University in order to help them solve myriad of challenges and stress posed in the conduct of examinations for large classes in the University.
According to a release made available by the University’s Media and Public Relations Officer, Wale Adeoye, the Eruwa-born Economist, while welcoming the LASU team to the university, appreciated them for coming all the way from Lagos and stated that, “Lagos State University is arguably the best state university in Nigeria. They are doing very well, and we need to understudy them and emulate the good things the university is doing. Their achievements can be seen everywhere, and we are ready and willing to allow them to mentor us.”
Speaking further, the Chief Executive Officer said: “I know the VC of Lagos State University Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, is the Chairperson of all State Universities in Nigeria, I appreciate her and congratulate her on the just concluded convocation of the University. We are willing to learn from LASU because we don’t want to make mistakes.”
Prof. Olaniyan emphasized that LASU ideas are innovative and noble, which everyone can attest to.
He said he was convinced personally on the viability of the GNS E-learning platform software, which he believes will add value to Emmanuel Alayande University of Education.
He, however, mentioned that he will push this noble idea to the University Management for consideration and hope it will get a speedy and favourable response while noting that good things are not cheap anywhere.
He concluded that the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education team is eager to learn from LASU and requested the demonstration of the software for everyone to see firsthand. He noted that the MoU would be reviewed by the University Management and that in no too distant future, they will get back to the LASU team.
Prof Mubasiru Olayiwola Mohammed, the Director Centre for General Nigerian Studies, LASU, who led the LASU team, appreciated the Vice -Chancellor for the positive welcome and went down memory lane on how the idea of the collaboration with LASU was birthed.
He said he came to the university to deliver the keynote speech on their inaugural education conference, and after the conference, the DVC Prof. Salawu approached him on the need to engage and discuss further on the GNS E-learning platform software he mentioned in the course of his speech. He said collaboration is now a global phenomenon where a university is willing to learn, tap and share from the knowledge and breakthroughs already achieved by others.
He further said that LASU has reduced the challenges posed in the process of conducting GNS examinations for over fifty thousand students to the bearest minimum level.
He listed the advantages of the software, which includes a reduction in the cost of conducting examinations, reduction in the number of personnel, less stress on the university facilities, and time wasting.
He concluded that LASU is willing and ready to collaborate with Emmanuel Alayande University of Education to assist them in achieving greatness within the shortest possible time.
After the robust discussion in the office of the Vice Chancellor, the LASU team was taken around the facilities of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education; the ICT building and the Adekunle Ogunmola Library.
The team inspected and assessed the facilities in the two buildings, interacted with the personnel on ground and had valuable discussions with them. This exercise will, in the long run, improve their productivity and eventually add value to the university.
The pioneer DVC Emmanuel Alayande University of Education Prof Ibrahim Olatunde Salawu precided over the activities of the second day which was meant to report and evaluate the findings of the tour of facilities and interactions with the staff of the university earlier carried out by LASU team as well as making recommendations to the university on way forward
Prof. Mubasiru Olayiwola Mohammed, while giving his report, commended the university for the facilities they were able to put in place despite the fact that they evolved as a university just two years ago.
He stressed that the university has the potential to be great if only the staff of the university have the positive mindset to welcome new ideas and innovation that will take the university to the highest pedestal.
The members staff of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, who joined the Vice-Chancellor and DVC in the task include; Registrar of the University Mrs. Olubunmi Asunmo, Director GSP Dr. Oluremi Akanbi, Director Research Dr. Ademola Atanda, Director, ICT, Dr. Omolara O. Adeboye, Senior Lecturer Computer Science Mr. Sola Ayoade, University P.R.O. Mr. ‘Wale Adeoye, staff of ICT Mr. Jeminiwa and Mr. Olamide Bashiru, as well as the legal officer of the University Miss lfe Olatunde.
Other LASU team members on the visitation tour include Asst. Director DICT Dr. Adewale Mustapha, Deputy Registrar/Administrative Secretary CGNS Mr Ademola Adekoya and representative Legal Unit Senior Assiistant Registrar Mr. Sunday Fanu.
