Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has assured members of the Nigerian Armed Forces of his administration’s unwavering support in their quest and efforts to safeguard and protect the sovereignty of the country.

The Governor, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, gave the assurance on Thursday during the Parade and Laying of Wreaths Ceremony in commemoration of the Y2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State government’s commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes is never in doubt, adding that Nigerian governments and the people will always remember their sacrifices.
He stated Nigerian Armed Forces are risking their lives to ensure the safety of lives and properties, hence, the need for the Federal and State governments to reciprocate by providing necessary support.

“Today, we are doing the Armed Forces celebration and Remembrance Day to honour and encourage our military officials, as well as to remember our fallen heroes and to pray for them. And to let them know that their sacrifices have never been in vain. This is just to show them that the nation is behind them and that we will do everything that it takes to always support them,” the Governor said.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the state remains committed to providing assistance for the widows of fallen heroes, noting that while support efforts often happen behind the scenes, the government remains fully dedicated to ensuring that military personnel are encouraged and valued for their service.
The Deputy Controller General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, commended the Lagos State Government for its continuous support to the Armed Forces, particularly the widows of the fallen heroes.
DCG Olawale, therefore, reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Legion to the welfare of military veterans and the dependents of fallen heroes, as the body remains a statutory organization established to cater to the welfare of veterans and the families they left behind.
