This award is given to an outstanding IFBLS Associate member for their continuous support of Biomedical Laboratory Science through continuing education and other activities and to promote the objectives of IFBLS.
Olusegun Olayemi is a biomedical scientist and a STEMNET (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Network) UK Ambassador. Olusegun has worked on activities to encourage students and young people to gain an interest in careers in STEM through fun and creative projects.
Olusegun recently organised an event to increase awareness in laboratory careers and engage future scientists in STEM careers, featuring different professions for students interested in biomedical sciences. Olusegun has also organised seminars for recent graduates and biomedical scientists to help them find their first job.
Olusegun said, “As a biomedical scientist I have a strong passion for my profession which drives me to volunteer my time and effort to promote biomedical sciences to young high school students in a vast range of original, creative, practical and engaging ways both inside and outside of the classroom.
As a STEMNET Ambassador I promote STEM subjects to ensure that future generations are able to appreciate and understand the role of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects and careers in the world around them and that younger people enter careers in STEM.”
The IFBLS President will award Olusegun a plaque and certificate during the Awards Ceremony, as part of the World Congress Opening Ceremony, held this year in Kobe, Japan. The IBMS congratulates Olusegun on this prestigious award.
It could be recalled that Olusegun Olayemi attended Lagelu grammar school,Ibadan for his secondary education.
