The newly elected president of University of Osun Alumni Association Aboderin Ademuyiwa has called on fellow contestants in the just concluded Alumni election to accept the outcome of the election for the peace, unity and progress of the university.
Ademuyiwa’s statement follows various media report calling on the university to annul the election that brought him in as the president.
Following the report which was published on National Dailies and other online media platform On Monday May 7th, 2018, an NGO with the name People’s Advocacy Vanguard had called for the annulment of the election results and also alleged that the elected president, Ademuyiwa had lied about his job description.
Reacting to the report, as falsehood, the president elect said, “On the 28th of April, we held our alumni association Congress at the main campus Oke Baale Osogbo, we were three contestants for the post of President, myself Aboderin Ademuyiwa, Oriola Oladipupo, and Ijoba Idris.
” At the venue of the Congress 88 members were accredited while 81 casted their votes, after the voting the following results was received by the electoral Chairman, Mr Owolabi Ayasanmi.
” Aboderin Ademuyiwa scored 33 votes,Oriola Oladipupo score 30 votes, Ijoba Idris scored 07 votes. By the guidelines of our constitution which is on article 15Ax, victory at the election shall be by simple majority, so the electoral chairman declared me Aboderin Ademuyiwa as the winner and newly elected President with immediate effect. ”
Speaking further on the alleged misleading publication, Ademuyiwa said he was shocked about the report and that further check on the said NGO revealed they were non-registered.
” The report by the People’s Advocacy Vanguard – which upon my investigation is a non-registered NGO- saying that the election process was marred with irregularities is not true.
” I want to state category that the information is fake and misleading. The electoral process was conducted under free,fair and peaceful environment, all aspirants were screened, infact the electoral chairman Mr Owolabi is an icon of transparency and accountability.
Let me also clear the air on allegations that the management were instrumental to my electoral victory.
” I do not know anyone in the university management and as matter of fact the management did not contribute anything to our Congress process expect the hall they gave us free for the election. I am a graduate of Economics with second class upper Division from Osun State University and currently student of postgraduate studies in Economics at University of Lagos Akoka Yaba Lagos.
” I currently work with Planet Project Ltd (transportation infrastructure, engineering and procurement organization.My advice is to stay away from malicious character assassination and receive the hand of fellowship that I have extended.Our association and university at this stage need everyone to come together for us to achieve meaningful development”
Ademuyiwa however noted that he had contacted his lawyer to sue those behind the publication.
Integrity reporter contacted the Registrar of Osun State University, Alhaji Shittu. He said the school had ordered for a report from the chairman of the electoral body Mr. Owolabi.
According to him, ” I and the Vice Chancellor read the report as published in the National Daily. We discovered there are two parties actually waring on the election of the Alumni. We asked the Chairman of the electoral committee who is also our staff to write a report and the report has already been submitted to the management.”
On what the University management intend to do, he said, ” when the management considers the report, we will take an appropriate decision.”
