The coming of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, Ike Obosi (meaning the man of the people), into the gubenatorial race in Anambra State has made the contest very interesting.
The former Corps Marshal of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, FRSC, joined the race in the Anambra governor election, slated for November 18, 2017 recently when he told a consultative meeting of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, at Otuocha, near Awka that his desire to run for the position was to serve the people.
To Chidoka, the people of Anambra have been deprived of quality leadership especially during the teunre of the incumbent governor, who has failed, since he assumed power, to change the life of people he was elected to serve.
“I am ready to serve the people in any capacity even as a counselor because no position is too small or big for him as long as it is service to the people.
“Since my youth service years, I have been involved in volunteer service; so the driving motive for this ambition is to serve the people of the state,” Chidoka said.
To Chidoka, who has been regarded as the man of the people, time has come for PDP to take over power in Anambra. He said that the issue of zoning, propounded by APGA would not be considered by PDP in fielding a candidate.
The PDP Chairman in the Local Government, Chief Thompson Chikezie, was happy with the ambition of Chidoka, saying “Chidoka’s visit shows the type of leader he will be if elected as governor. Any good leader aspiring to public office should always take recourse to the grassroots.
“It shows open-mindedness, respect, love and seriousness. He is courageous for coming to the Local Government of the incumbent governor.”
The history of Chidoka’s philantropism is known to his people before now. He had once instituted a N10 million scholarship scheme for indigent school children in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra.
He announced this during the third Obiora Festival and reception held for him by the Obosi community. Mr. Chidoka said that funds for the scholarship scheme would be provided by his friends who were interested in ensuring that indigent members of the community acquire high level of education.
When he was the country’s Aviation Minister during the government of Goodluck Jonathan, there were testimonies of his exemplary leadership that would stand the test of time. During his time as the Aviation Minister, Chidoka was said to have instituted a recruitment process in FAAN, which got right people into the service of the government.
In a message written by one of the beneficiaries, he said: “I am happy to tell you that I benefitted from the flawless recruitment of FAAN 2015, I had said it and will say it history will be kind to you, because of you, the best heads were selected. Through that process I met the best heads I could only dream to meet, recruits from best international and national universities were taken. I am a product of a UK University. Data administration is the bed of any successful organization.
“Sir, the initiative you orchestrated shouldn’t be a political agenda. I don’t know if voices can prevail at this point to speak to FAAN and tell them the need of preserving great initiatives of the previous administration as far as its for the good of Nigeria.
“This exercise gave me hope that this country can be great again, from writing CBT from the comfort of my home, to an interview where I knew my performance was key to my recruitment. I had sent you a DM before for this reason, and this is my last attempt. Thanks for everything you have done and the hope you gave that Nigeria can be great.”
