The GOC 1 Division of the Nigerian Army,  Maj-Gen Usman Mohammed, has called on NAOWA to sensitize barrack communities against the spread of COVID-19.

The General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army,  Maj-Gen Usman Mohammed, has called on the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) to sensitize barrack communities against the spread of COVID-19.

Mohammad made the call on Wednesday in Kaduna, when he received the Chairperson, NAOWA 1 Division chapter, Mrs Hadiza Mohammed, and other members of the association at the Headquarters of the Division.

The GOC noted that NAOWA had over the years added value to the lives of people within and outside the barrack through its contributions to education, health care and skills development.

He urged the association to join the campaign against COVID-19, and enlighten the barrack community on the benefits of the lockdown and social distancing.

He expressed readiness to support the association within available resources.

Earlier in her remarks, Mrs Mohammed, said their visit was to congratulate the GOC on his appointment.

She lauded the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai, for his commitment and achievements in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency,  banditry,  kidnappings and other criminal elements disturbing the peace of the nation.

Mrs Mohammed said that NAOWA, as a non governmental organisation, was committed to the welfare of women and children in the barracks and its host communities.

She explained that the organisation has been assisting widows of soldiers who lost their lives in active service.

The NAOWA chairperson added that the organisation also run Vocational Training Centre, Computer School and Nursery and Primary Schools.

She called for the support of the leadership of the Division to enable NAOWA realise its objectives.

The chairperson was accompanied during the visit by the Division’s NAOWA executive members.(NAN)
