It is no longer news that there were promotions and transfer of men and officers of Immigration Services across the country.
But the imbalance and geographical socio ethnic hatred in the sharing and posting of the officers in Lagos state remains the bane that has been tearing the Immigration Service apart in Lagos.
There are three major Passport Offices in Lagos state; Ikeja, which is headed by a northerner, Abdullahi Abba Dalhatu, Ikoyi was headed by a Yoruba man Segun Adegoke before he was recently transferred to head Kano training school and Festac office headed by an Igbo extraction.
The Ikoyi Passport Office has been without head. The problem starts when Comptroller General of Immigration (CGI) Mr.Mohammed Babandede failed to appoint substantive Passport Controller Officer for Ikoyi rather he asked Babali Mohammed who is a northern to be the acting.
Many begin to suspect the danger in Babandede’s action because it was expected of him to appoint a Yoruba man to be the Ikoyi Passport Controller Officer. This action did not go down well with some officers who confined in our correspondent that favourism is the order of the day which is against Service ethics, while some have noted the body language of Babali Mohammed that he is scheming to be confirmed as the Passport Controller Officer for Ikoyi Office.
Another immigration officer says that it’s a time bomb that is waiting to explode if ethnicity imbalance is eventually stays.
