Former Nigeria International goalkeeper, Joseph Dosu has called for outright sack of Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr following the lackluster performance of senior national team at the recent international friendlies and their match against Sierra Leone in the Africa Nations Qualifier in both home and away match.
Dosu who is bittered with the current form of Eagles exclusively told our correspondent at Agege Stadium, Lagos that time has come for Nigeria Football Federations, NFF to part way with foreign coach saying that his four years as a coach in Super Eagles is nothing to write home about.
“My assessment on Rohr after four years he has spent as a chief coach of Eagles is a failure and let NFF relieve him of the job. I mean NFF should sack him because he has not moved the national team forward. Up till now, the coach is still experimenting players to the extent that we were four goals up, and the lowly rated Sierra Leone came from behind and leveled the game in Benin.
“This is to tell you that the coach has nothing to offer this country again and if he continues like this, more disasters are coming. The earlier the better we take such decision now, the better for the country. Le the NFF get another foreign or local coach who can deliver and give Nigerians indomitable team that would be proud of in the subsequent continental competitions” he said.
The 1996 Olympics gold medalist said the four years of Rohr as a chief coach of the senior national team has been described as a total failure saying that up till now, the country does not have a stable national team.
According to him, the most annoying part of Rohr attitude is that he does not believe in local players instead, he prefers to invite foreign players anytime the country has continental or intercontinental assignments.
He further said most of the foreign players he invited for the Africa Nations qualifiers are not used to African football and there is no way they would play better against African countries.
He said past Eagles coaches give local players chance to play for national team.He particularly mentioned late Keshi during his days as a coach. He said Keshi gave local players chance to play in Eagles which really helped the country to win the Africa Nations Cup in 2013 in South Africa.
“Despite the fact that Late Keshi won the Nations Cup for us, he was still sacked by NFF so Rohr should be sacked too because he has not met the expectations of Nigerian football fans. Nigerians cannot watch Eagles on TV set and relax nowadays instead they would watch their team under pressure either at home or away match which is not good for Nigerian football fans.
“For how long we would continue to do the experimentation when many African countries have stable players for their national teams. We have been experimenting the national team for the past five years and we are still in one spot. I think the best way to avoid future national calamities is to allow the head coach to go back to his country and look for hungry coach who can turn things around for us.
“Without that, I foresee more troubles for Eagles in nearest future and it would cost us qualification for a big tournament” said Dosu who called for more inclusion of more local players in the Eagles instead of packing foreign players to dominate the senior national team.
