An Ikorodu Customary Court in Lagos State, has ordered a couple to go on a three-month separation as a strategy to save their marriage.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the court president, Mrs Omolara Abiola, gave the order following an appeal by the man, Mr Wasiu Liadi, that the court should save his 29-year-old marriage.

Wasiu was responding to a divorce suit filed by his wife, Monsurat, who accused him of beating her even in public.

Wasiu made the appeal for reconciliation after some of his relatives testified before the court that he had been harsh to his family.

Abiola said that the court would decide what next to do about the 29-year-old marriage after the separation.

She ordered Monsurat and Wasiu not to marry any other person during the period.

Abiola warned Wasiu to desist from going to his wife’s shop during the period.

“An undertaking should be signed by the husband that he would never lay his hands on his wife and children wherever he sees them, “she ordered.

Monsurat, a food vendor, had alleged that Wasiu, an artist, constantly harassed and beat her and their four children.

The resident of Hamzat Arowolo Street, Ikorodu, Lagos, also accused her husband of luring her maids into an illicit affair.

“I am no more interested in the marriage. Please separate us so that I and my children can have rest of mind, “she said.
