south-africa-hiv-1A SERIOUS warning has been issued by South African President, Jacob Zuma to men and women that find it difficult to control their libido in engaging in sexual activities. This warning is coming at a time 7 million people in Madiba’s country are living with HIV. This is why a recent report by United Nations AIDS Gap which corroborates our investigation confirmed that South Africa has the biggest and most high profile HIV epidemic in the world, with an estimated 7 million people living with HIV in 2015. In the same year, there were 380,000 new infections while 180,000 South Africans died from AIDS-related illnesses.
Going by a recent law passed in South Africa, all HIV-positive people will be marked near their genitals by year end. They will be marked with an HIV tattoo that will reflect their identities.
President Zuma signed a bill that seems to be the biggest step in the history of time. Zuma after the signing the bill said “The mark is to protect those who can’t say no to sex. I mean if you can’t read between the lines, you can read between the legs because there is where the status will be tattooed.
The choice to be HIV positive is in your hands now or your genitals for that matter. We also encourage those who have been living with the virus to go to the nearest hospital and get inked with their status. The first 10 million people to get their status tattooed will be getting a Rs. 50,000 funeral expense voucher.”
South Africa has the largest antiretroviral treatment (ART) programme globally and these efforts have been largely financed from its own domestic resources. The country now invests more than $1.5 billion annually to run its HIV and AIDS programmes. However, HIV prevalence remains high (19.2%) among the general population, although it varies markedly between regions. For example, HIV prevalence is almost 40% in Kwazulu Natal compared with 18% in Northern Cape and Western Cape.
