Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has emerged as the consensus candidate of the Oshiomole-led faction of the APC in Edo state to contest for the party’s governorship ticket.
He was named the consensus candidate in Abuja on Tuesday, May 27 by the committee set up by the Oshiomole-led faction to screen about eight aspirants in the group.
The Street Journal has learnt that Ize-Iyamu will be contesting for the party’s governorship ticket with the current governor, Godwin Obaseki, who has been at loggerheads with Oshiomole.
The APC has fixed June 22 for its direct primaries.
It would be recalled that Ize-Iyamu was the PDP governorship candidate in the last governorship election, however, he defected to APC in November 2020.
The Independent National Electoral has scheduled the state governorship election for September 19, 2020.
