The Alaafin of Oyo,Iku Baba Yeye,His Imperial Majesty Oba(Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola,Adeyemi 111,CFR,is 83 years old today.May Kabiyesi live long in sound health,joy,honour and contentment.Amen.
When I clocked 60 years on Wednesday,27th October,2010,Kabiyesi Alaafin Adeyemi hosted me to a luncheon in his palace in Oyo,which was attended by my family,mediamen and some guests of the royal father.
When I clocked 70 years on Tuesday,27th October,last year,my family,out of sympathy for the casualties,victims and their relations of the fatal end-SARS riots in the country,postponed all the planned celebrations of my birthday to Sunday,15th December,2020,at the new International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan,Oyo State of Nigeria.
Despite the tense situation of that time,Kabiyesi Oba Adeyemi was among the early guests at my 70th birthday party in Ibadan.I remain grateful for Oba Adeyemi’s constant love for me and my family.
If I must say this,my late uncle,Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Kolapo Alabi,settled in Oyo town,when the prestigious TEXACO FILLING STATION,in Akesan Market,was opened in 1962 for him as the pioneer Dealer.Some members of the Alabi Family have since made Oyo Town their second home.
