Lagos State Cooperative College to Graduate 153 at 2nd Convocation Ceremony

The Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) is set to graduate 153 students at its second convocation ceremony scheduled to take place from May 12 to 14, 2025.

This pronouncement was made on Friday during a press briefing held at the college’s campus in Agege by the Provost, Mr. Akorede Ojomu.

In his address, Mr. Ojomu reflected on the institution’s progress since its inaugural convocation in 2022, describing its evolution as a “journey marked by resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to academic excellence.”

The Provost expressed gratitude to the Governor of Lagos State and Moderator of the College, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his “visionary leadership and unwavering support,” which he said has been instrumental in the institution’s growth. He also commended the Governing Council and staff for their dedication and hard work.

Originally established to provide short-term training for cooperatives, LASCOCO has transformed into a state-recognized higher institution contributing significantly to manpower development in alignment with Lagos State’s THEMES+ agenda.

Mr. Ojomu noted that the college had recently received full accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to award National Diplomas in Microfinance and Enterprise Development as well as Cooperative Economics and Management, in addition to interim accreditation in Computer Science.

Highlighting achievements since the last convocation, the Provost revealed that the college had recruited more qualified lecturers, digitized its operations, expanded infrastructure, and entered into strategic partnerships with institutions including Lagos State University, the UK’s Co-operative College, and Ibile Microfinance Bank.

The graduating students will be awarded National and Professional Diplomas in Microfinance and Enterprise Development, Cooperative Economics and Management, and Economics and Management. In addition to academic qualifications, graduates have also been equipped with vocational skills, thanks to partnerships with the Lagos State Women Development Centre.

The convocation activities will begin Monday, May 12, with Convocation Lecture titled “Cooperative Management: The development and transformation of Nano enterprises in Lagos State, to be delivered by Dr. Olusegun Dada

Other highlights include an alumni and student engagement day on May 13 and the main convocation ceremony on May 14, which will feature diploma awards, the conferral of fellowship honours, and the commissioning of a new academic building by Governor Sanwo-Olu.

As part of its broader efforts to tackle unemployment, the College recently launched a Premium 9-Month Technical Training Programme, which includes a 3-month industry-based internship. The programme, aligned with the City & Guilds of London curriculum, currently offers training in electrical installation, plumbing, and welding.

In a poignant moment, Mr. Ojomu announced that the upcoming convocation would be his last as Provost, with his tenure concluding in a few weeks. He thanked God, the Lagos State Government, his family, and the college community for their support throughout his term.

“Your efforts and belief in our shared vision have made all the difference,” he said.
