LASG organises safety trainin for retail gas operators in Lagos Stat
Amidst the preparation for the yuletide season and incessant fire incidents in Lagos, the state government has organized a safety training for retail gas operators in Lagos State
Mojola, in his keynote address, at a one – day training program in conjunction with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, with the theme: Safety Training for retail gas operators in Lagos State, said the program was organized to profer solution to incessant gas explosions and fire incidents that often lead to loss of lives and properties in the state.
The Lagos Safety DG, represented by the Director, Administration and Human Resource of the Commission, Dr. Mrs. Nike Akindele, said cars, appliances, properties or any other utilities could be replaced if broken or get burnt, but human lives is irreplaceable, adding that once life is irreplaceable, human being must do everything humanly possible too to protect lives devoid of hazards.
Mojola maintained that once explosion ocurred moral, financial and reputation of such organization are eroded.
”The purpose of the training is to give operators public knowledge which can assist them and enable what to do incase there is fire incidents or probably avoid its occurrence.
I am confident we have capable facilitators that are well groomed that would train and educate all of the participants. I am sure you are going to enjoy the program. Please endeavor to listen attentively and enjoy the rest of the day”, Mojola said.
He further mentioned that explosions may occur when gases are aldulterated, cylinders mishandled or when industrial and cooking gases are used close to sources of ignition. Other causes are proliferation of gas retail outlets as well as improper training of operators and users on safe handling of gas.
Mojola, however, appealed to all operators to cooperate fully with government operatives when they arrive their facility, saying “We are convinced that at the end of this annual exercise, Lagos will become a safer place for all.
Different papers were presented by different safety experts including Eng. Adedoyin Odufuwa, Safety Audit 2, Lagos State Safety Commission, who presented a paper on Gas retailing: Hazards and risk control, Mr Adeyinka Adebiyi spoke on Gas cylinder handling and Emergency Management.
However, Director Oil and Gas, Engr. Sesan Odukoya from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources presented a paper on Cooking Gas penetration policy and regulatory of retail business.
The last paper presentation was done by Mr.Odunayo Olukotun, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, who delivered paper on Fire prevention and fire management, among others.
