The campaign ground was convergence of who is who not only in Anambra state alone but across the Igboland and Nigeria. The official campaign launch was held on Saturday 30th September, 2017 at Town School field, Amorka, Ihiala LGA, Anambra state, along Onitsha-Owerri road.
Chidoka and his campaign team paid a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Amorka, Igwe Kenneth who wholeheartedly endorsed Chief Osita Chidoka as the next governor of Anambra state. The foremost traditional ruler prayed for the UPP candidate, Chief Chidoka to succeed in his aspiration so as to move Anambra state forward.
After this, the Chidoka campaign train moved to the waiting hands of a mammoth crowd who trooped out enmass to show solid support to their governor to be at the Town School field. The whole field was jam packed even before Chidoka could had opportunity to get to the podium, the security personnel had hectic crowd hard time to control the crowd.
It was the turn of United Progressive Party State Chairman to address the crowd, he eulogized Chidoka’s achievements over the years both at Federal Road Safety Commission and as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He challenged any of opposition candidates that has credential, credibility and outstanding performance like Osita Chidoka to present it before the public.
The United progressive Party Chairman emphasized that he has never supported failed candidate in his sojourn in politics. He talked confidently that Chidoka, the flagged bearer of UPP is going to win November 18th gubernatorial election landslide.
In his speech at the August occasion, the National Chairman of UPP, Chief (Dr.) Okoro told the excited crowd that United Progressive Party is the only party that has determination and credible candidate in Anambra gubernatorial election. He maintained that no other party has referendum. He called on voters to vote for Osita Chidoka, the UPP candidate.
Chief (Dr.) Okoro did not allow the opportunity of being in the presence of party faithful and loyalists including a large gathering of Ndigbo in recent time to elude him before he lambasted the current Chairman of All Progressive Party (APC) Chief John Oyegun over the statement credited to him that Igbo can only be President if they (Igbo people) join the APC, he said this is a lie that Oyegun is brevity of foresight.
When it was the time for the man of the people and moment to come on stage, there was a loud ovation as noise rented the air when Chief Osita Chidoka was called by the National Chairman of the party for the handing over of the flag as the standard flagbearer of the party in 18th November election.
Chief Osita Chidoka, an eloquent soft spoken gentleman, came to the podium with his adorable, diligent, humble and supportive beautiful wife beaming with smile, did not disappoint his followers even he convinced the doubting Thomases that he is more than capable to take Anambra people to the promise land.
Chidoka quickly dismissed the judicial judgement that Igboland is a land of terrorists, saying “No terrorists in Igboland.” This statement attracted louder ovation, he appealed to federal government to withdraw the bill signed as regards this position. He maintained his word by saying that “we are not terrorists, we will triumph, we are only true Nigerians in Nigeria, and we have invested in every part of this country.”
Chidoka expressed his displeasure with APGA ruling government in the state that it has disappointed the people. “APGA betrayed our mandate freely given to them, we shall send them out of Akwa government house. We will rebuild Anambra state,” he said.
He urged every member of UPP to vote and defend it. He promised to imprison injustice in Anambra State and create opportunity for everybody to grow, adding strongly that he would make sure Anambra works.
