The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has quizzed Anyim Pius Anyim, a former secretary to federal government of Nigeria under President Jonathan and former Senate president, over a N780 million aviation fund in which a company he is tied to has been allegedly implicated.
Anyim, a former senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District, arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Sunday afternoon and was there till late evening.
The investigation is said to be linked with a case of alleged money laundering involving Senator Stella Oduah, a former minister of aviation.
Oduah, the lawmaker representing Anambra North Senatorial District, was recently named in the Pandora Papers as one of the Nigerians hiding their wealth in tax havens.
Although details of the current interrogation are still sketchy, the EFCC, according to sources, is reportedly uncovering details of N780 million belonging to the aviation ministry said to have been traced to a company in which Anyim, also a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has interest.
“Anyim’s invitation and interrogation is in connection with a case of money laundering involving a former Aviation Minister and serving senator, Senator Stella Oduah,” the Punch quoted a source as saying.
”Investigations revealed that part of the aviation ministry’s N780 million was traced to a company in which Anyim has interest. He is presently cooperating with investigators.”
The EFCC is, however, yet to comment on the development.
