Detectives of the Force Criminal Investigation Intelligent Department, FCIID, Alagbon Lagos,have arrested a police Inspector,Okoi Etim,attached to Area K command Badagry,Lagos over N60.000 bribe in one of the hotels .
Integrity Reporter learnt that the officer allegedly lied to the owners of hotel around Badagry area by using the Area Commander, ACP Hope Okafor to extort N60,000 each from the hoteliers to enable them secured in the area peacefully.
However, an adage that say every day is for the thief one day is for the owner of house when nemesis caught against him as the hotel association trapped him with marked money he collected previously without knowing it was mark as he was counting the money to check if it is complete.
The operation was carried out by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, General Investigation,Mr Abutu Yaro, who deployed his team to the area to trap Etim following a petition to the Deputy Inspector General of Police DIG, in Abuja over Etim’s conduct in Badagry area.
Integrity Reporter gathered that the petitioner alleged that Etim and his team have been extorting the hoteliers for past six years by intimidating and harassing the hoteliers in the area .
The Area Commander, have been sensitizing the officers at the Command on professionalism and be of good conduct, he discouraged them from any act of corruption which negative effect to force.
Our reporter learn that every Friday the officer go from one hotel owner to another to collect between N10,000 – N15,000 before he imposed N60,000 on every of from the hoteliers without the knowledge of the Area Commander.
Residents expressed happiness for new the Commander who just resumed office barely two months ago make remarkable changes as she had successfully dismantled all the illegal road blocks along Badagry expressway now called ECOWAS Road.
A police sources told our reporter that he personally warned his colleague ever since he engaged in the act of going from hotel to hotel to extort money the hoteliers who is doing their business.
