The Nigeria police paraded suspects over the Ile-Ife crisis that claimed over a dozen lives and the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
A statement signed by the force public relations officer CSP Jimoh Moshood yesterday said the police arrested 38 suspects but released 18 for lack of evidence and retained 20 people found culpable.
It is recalled that consequent to the clashes on March 8, the Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris had deployed police special intervention force to restore calm in the community.
The statement said 46 people were killed and 96 injured were taken to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH) out of which 81 were treated and discharged, while 15 are still on admission.
He added that the Police Special Intervention Force (PSIF) did not engage in indiscriminate arrests as being reported in the media but worked on actionable intelligence and other information gathered during and after the crisis.
The police spokesman called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, public office holders, politicians, opinion leaders, parents and guardians to prevail on their subjects, supporters, children and wards to support the PSIF in Ile Ife and other flash points in Osun State in the discharge of their responsibilities, and propagate peace.
