RE-NOTIFICATION OF BRUTALIZATION AND VANDALIZATION BY EMMANUEL ALAYANDE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

The attention of the authority of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo has been drawn to a news flying around titled, “Notification of Brutalisation And Vandalization By Emmanuel Alayande University Students”.

It is important that we put the record straight to correct the misleading information about the institution.

On Tuesday, 21 January 2025, at approximately 10.50p.m, it was reported that one of our female students poisoned herself in a case of attempted suicide. She was immediately rushed to the State Hospital, Oyo to allow immediate medical attention after she had been rejected at a private hospital.

The students, due to time, and that they live off-campus, were unable to secure a vehicle to transport the victim to the State Hospital, but eventually, some okada riders helped them. When the students noted that the needed urgent attention was not given to this emergency situation at the State Hospital, a call was made to the Dean, Student Affairs who rushed down and had to take the victim to another private health facility, where she was admitted and eventually received timely medical attention.

However, in a turn of events, a team of Amotekun security personnel in company of a staff of the State Hospital, Oyo arrived at the private hospital to forcefully arrest the dying student and others who were with her. At this point, the Amotekun security personnel in their professional nature turned back that it would be unprofessional to arrest a dying student. A few minutes later, a team of police officers arrived at the hospital again led by this same staff and attempted to arrest the DSA and the dying student with other students.

To ensure peace, the DSA acting within his mandates, called the Area Commander of Police to brief him on the situation. The Area Commander and DPO Durbar Police Station instantly arrived at the hospital, and were able to resolve the situation.

The Area Commander in an effort to ensure all-round peace among all parties called a tripartite peace meeting on Wednesday, 22 January 2025 among the police, State Hospital authority and the Management of EAUED represented by the Dean of Students. The three parties left the meeting believing that this issue had been amicably resolved.

The Management of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo hereby publicly appreciates the Nigerian Police, Oyo Area Command and the Amotekun Security personnel for their display of true professionalism in managing what could have disrupted the peace of Oyo town.
