Former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson has finally admitted that the Barcelona side that defeated Manchester United in the 2011 Champions League Final was the best ever.
The now-retired manager has this week released his new autobiography and in it has paid tribute to Pep Guardiola’s side that defeated his United team 3-1 at Wembley in May 2011.
Formidable
– Barca was the best team ever to line up against my Manchester United sides, Ferguson has written in his book.
– The group of world-beaters who formed around Messi were formidable.
– I felt no envy towards those great sides. Regrets yes, when we lost to them, but jealousy, no, he further wrote.
Reflections
The Scot, however, reflected on how he felt United’s hotel setting influenced proceedings ahead of their 2009 Champions League Final defeat to Barca.
– It was a shambles. We were in a room with no light, the food was late and cold.
The Spaniards ran rings around the Old Trafford team, clinically taking them apart on the way to lifting the trophy.
