It is evidently clear that the only way forward in a crisis period and global pandemic like we are facing now is to have a standardized social welfare for our citizenry According to a book titled Path to creating social welfare in Nigeria: Exploring Nigeria’s Living Legends, written by Abraham Bola Lawal which is expected to storm shelves soon, the author revealed ‘This is part of my contribution to give back to Nigeria towards its growth and development. It is a book of 425 pages divided into two parts. The first part of the book contain my take and framework ideas for the investment and benefits in people living in Nigeria first. Nigerians must have a life first before you can get a country that all of us can be proud of and respect globally. A space in history is created for people who are recognised as Nigeria’s Living legends (Alive at the time of publishing the book in 2019). They are categorised as Super Giants Nigeria’s Living Legends, Giants Nigeria’s Living Legends, and Classic Nigeria’s Living Legends. Super Giants are the traditional rulers and those above 70 years of age whose Nigeria is parading as their leaders (past and present). The Giants category included the Business moguls, top governments officials, the governors and those in position of authorities (past and present) who are less that 70 years of age. The classic are the Nigeria celebrities, sportsmen and women (past and present) and the high achievers who are below age 50.
In conclusion, establishing social welfare in Nigeria is long overdue, social welfare is the engine room of democracy and any administration that does it in Nigeria will never be forgotten. With social welfare in place in Nigeria, most of the issues mentioned in this presentation will go away. More so, it will make Nigerians to be stronger and more prepared to face any future challenges that may be facing the nation as a whole because no one is certain of what is down the road. The structure will determine the extent of economic growth and human capital development. When problems of poverty is addressed with creating social welfare in Nigeria by the president, the ministers, the state governors, the legislatures, the top security agents, top public civil servants, the traditional rulers and religious leaders, then we shall have a country Late Professor Dora Akuluiyi called Country of good people.
