STEVE AYORINDE and I have come a long way as colleagues, friends and finally Brothers. We share a common passion for Literature, the arts and knowledge in general. I have been a great admirer of his writing prowess, academic pursuits, peaceful mien, selflessness, generous heart, immaculate dress sense, humility, simplicity and awesome personality. His good pedigree and upbringing as one of the outstanding sons of the famous Ayorinde Chieftaincy family of Ibadan shines brilliantly in the noble manner that he comports himself. I was his guest in Ibadan some years ago and had the opportunity of meeting his core family. I saw first-hand where he picked his generosity and good breeding, impeccable manners and humility from.
As I scribble my thoughts on Steve, I cannot but thank God on his behalf. He has been a child of grace who has been mightily blessed to achieve what many 80-year olds have not succeeded in doing at only 50 years. Steve has been an intelligent scholar, a seasoned
journalist, an outstanding Editor and Editor-in-Chief, a consummate administrator who has made remarkable positive impact in all spheres like the veritable star that he is.
I have had the privilege of travelling with STEVO (one of his monikers) on his amazing journey and my regard and esteem for him have grown in leaps and bounds as his extraordinary life unfolds. I’m his silent but keen enthusiast and fan. The love and affection he keeps showering on me has not gone unnoticed. I will continue to thank him for his friendship, for being a true Brother and fellow compatriot. Typically, he penned one of the best and genuine tributes I received when I turned 60 recently. I was truly humbled and highly honoured.
Steve’s competence shone brilliantly when he served the administration of Governor Akinwumi Ambode in Lagos State during which he handled important portfolios such as Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture and other assignments. Even in the turbulent days, he remained calm, loyal and focused to the last day. A man of great integrity, he is much acclaimed and admired.
I’m not surprised about the giant strides he’s made in every endeavour that he has undertaken or each challenge that he has faced. He has always knuckled down and got the job done with aplomb, applause and accolades. I am confident that he will continue to be a fantastic achiever because success comes naturally to him, almost effortlessly, as he personifies a man filled with God’s grace. I’m reasonably assured that his best days are still ahead.
I will continue to cherish, love and respect Steve. Please, join me in giving a standing ovation to the man we all love to call Eleniyan, STEVE AYORINDE…
