Lagos State Government has said it would continue to support emergency responders in the state for optimum delivery of services to the people.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode disclosed this while presenting 250 first Aid boxes to Rapid Response Squad unit of the Lagos State Police Command in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.

The Governor, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Chief of Staff’s Office, Mr. Oluseyi Whenu noted that government is satisfied with the response time of its responders, his administration would ensure their services are better enhanced comparable to expected standard in advanced world.

He noted that apart from security of lives and property, which the Government is intensifying efforts on, Government was also trying to guarantee health security, especially on the road and during emergencies.

He explained that Government realized that apart from protection of lives and property on our roads, emergencies happen and the lives of people need to be protected, hence the training of 800 officers of Rapid Response Squad on administering First Aid like, stopping bleeding, cardio – pulmonary resuscitation, managing fracture and other forms of emergencies before the arrival of medical team.

He stated that the presentation of 250 First Aid boxes to Rapid Response Squad was to complement the earlier donation of 150 First Aid kits to the team. He added that 400 kits have so far been given to the RRS for their patrol vehicles and motor bikes.

He noted that the primary role of the RRS was for protection of lives and property, the State Government has realized that RRS gets to emergency scenes faster than most responders hence, the need for them to stabilize the victims before the arrival of medical personnel. This is why the Government is equipping them with First Aid training and complementing it with the supply of First Aid kits to make them save lives.

He disclosed that plans are on to extend the same gesture to other State emergency responders.

Receiving the kits on behalf of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, the Commander, Rapid Response Squad, ACP Olatunji Disu thanked the Governor for the gesture.

Disu stated that the first few minutes of emergencies are crucial moments, adding that the officers have been trained while attending to victims of emergencies to call LASAMBUS immediately.

He promised that the officers would continue to justify the confidence reposed on them by the State Government by putting the kits into good use.

Others who were at the ceremony were: SSA to Governor on Health Matters, Dr. Olusola Pitan; Medical Director, Governor’s Office Clinic, Dr. Lanre Adeboye, Head of Operations, RRS, DSP Akinwunmi Oke.
