Yoruba Tennis holds Ramadan Lectur
As Cleric tasks leaders to be courageous, listening and trustworthy.
The foremost indigenous club, Yoruba Tennis Club at the weekend held its 2024 Ramadan Tasfir lecture with prayers and praises to Almighty Allah for allowing us witness the year alive and in sound health.
The event took place at Greetings Hall of the Club at Onikan, Lagos Island.
The Chairman, Yoruba Tennis Club,who was the Chief Host, Bro. Olakunle Agbebi(SAN), welcome members and non-members to the event and reminded the gathering that the Ramadan Lecture is a yearly program at the Club.
He also gave appreciation to God for making it possible for those in attendance to witness the event, which also coincides with Christian Lenten seasons too, which would no doubt enable members engage in series of prayers for our dear nation.
“I believe with the two major fasting seasons, the Almighty will pour on us the spirit so that there would be peace and progress in our land”, Agbebi said.
Also in his lecture, the guest preacher, Imam Abdul Hakeem Lawal(Amir Ikhwan),
has charged leaders to be courageous, listening and trustworthy irrespective of their religious, tribal and political affiliations.
The theme of the lecture was “Islam and Leadership organized by Yoruba Tennis Club.
Imam Lawal, who was the Guest Lecturer at the event said it is only God that makes one a leader, just as he declared that not all people can become a leader but affirmed that once God has declared and pronounced you a leader, you must be knowledgeable and have that wisdom to act like a leader.
He said as a leader, that knowledge would enable you to be courageous, listening and trustworthy, just as he added that you must be able to take decision and abide with that decision either favourable or otherwise and allow people to advise you because no matter how, ‘you must have advisers among members you are leading, those that can advise you constructively and if you listen to them, it will guide you”, Imam Lawal said.
The cleric also declared that any good leader must be trustworthy because according to him ” Leadership is a trust, because it can make or mar you. That is why you have to ensure that anything entrusted to you is safe. Not that they would bring like 100 items for members to share and you want to use veto power that after all I am the leader, at least 50 of the items should be mine, no, first of all allow them share the things among members before taking your share, that is leadership”, Imam Lawal said.
The highpoint of the event was the offering of special national prayers for the socio-economic, as well as the security challenges facing the country and enhanced peace, progress and development of Nigerialeaders to be courageous, listening and trustworthy.
