Bayelsa University don, Engr. Dr. (Mrs) Amalate Ann Jonathan Obuebite bags NSE fellowship

A senior lecturer at the Bayelsa State owned Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Dr. Amalate Ann Jonathan Obuebite has been conffered with the Fellowship status by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE).

Engr Amalate Ann Jonathan Obuebite (PhD) by the conferement of the FNSE by the Nigerian Society of Engineers became the second woman in the state to be conferred with the prestigious Fellowship.

The Conferment ceremony, which was held at the International Conference Centre Abuja on wednesday, had in attendance the immediate past governor of Bayelsa state and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial district, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, serving and former members of House of Representatives including Rt Hon. Rodney Ambaowei, Rt. Hon Oforji Oboku, Rt. Hon. Prof. Lilian Orogbo, Rt. Hon. Israel Sunny Goli, Rt. Hon. Karibo Nadu, Rt. Hon. Francis Otta Agbo and several others.

The outgoing National President of the NSE, Engr. Tasiu Saad Gidari-Wudil, in his speech, disclosed that this would be his last official assignment as president, and he is thrilled to be handing over to the first ever female president of the association, Engr. Mrs. Margarett Aina Oguntala FNSE after 65 years of its existence.

He said the world revolves around technology advancement, hence the need for the engineers to take the lead position.

Engr Gidari-Wudil said NSE has a critical role to play in the rebuilding process being championed by the present administration of President Bola Tinubu.

On the election of a female engineer as the President of the NSE, the outgoing president said it is a further confirmation that the engineering profession believes in diversity and inclusiveness.

He, therefore, urged the incoming president and all conferees to bring their wealth of experience to bear in reshaping the economy of the country with a focus on the engineering sector.

Speaking shortly after her conferment, Engr. Dr. Obuebite attributed the height that she attains in the profession to the unfailing mercies of God and dint of hard work.

She also thanked her loving, ever-supportive husband, Hon. Dr. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, their children, the former governor Dickson, and national assembly members for their support.

She described her conferment as a fellow as a further confirmation that women have a critical role to play in the nation rebuilding process and everyone, regardless of their gender has a voice that must be heard.

Also, in his congratulatory message, the former governor of Bayelsa state and member of the National Assembly representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Henry Seriake Dickson said Engr Obuebite has further put Bayelsa in the technological global radar.

He said that he is proud to be associated with her for being the second woman from the state to be conferred with the fellowship.

He, therefore, stressed the need for other women to follow her footpath in bringing honour to the state.
