Community Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (COMPASS) has commended the management of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its swift response to the plight of prospective candidates who are finding it difficult having easy access to enrol for national Identity Number (NIN).
According to press release from the office of the President of the association, Mr Tayo Aderinola who revealed that suspension of NIN as a prerequisite for the 2020 UTME and Direct Entry Examination no doubt will be a big relieve for students seeking for the form.
It’s no longer a news that the students in December, expressed their displeasure over the rigorous process Nigerians, most especially students underwent enrolling for the National Identity Number (NIN) in the country.
Aderinola went further praising the JAMB registrar, professor Ishaq Oloyede for his responsiveness to the plight of Nigerias, saying the best way to progress in a society is for leadership to review people’s predicament and respond accordingly.
“Professor Oloyede has in his usual manner proved his worth to us as a scholar and technocrat who knows what to do to change the narrative where and when necessary. This is to say we still have leaders who are God fearing and still have the interest of their people at heart”. he explained
Meanwhile, Aderinola lamented about the challenges the students faced in enrollment process which was marred with extortion, bribery and all forms of corrupt practices,.
He however, urged the regulatory Authority to put in place an adequate monitoring checks and balance mechanism to resolve every logistic issues and ease the process.
“Issue of extortion by some officials of the Commission must be addressed without fear or favour.”
He said “Government must diligently probe NIN registration centres where people are coerced to pay in order to be registered and ensure the culprits are brought to book to serve as deterrent to others who may want engage and perpetrate such barbaric act in the future”.
