The National Anti-Corruption Volunteer Corps (NAVC) has charged its members to be diligent in the waging war and sensitizing the public against corruption particularly at the grassroots.
Mr Mohammed Abdullahi, the Kwara Coordinator, of the corps made the appeal in Ogele, Asa local government area of the state while inaugurating new executive members for the council.
Abdullahi said that the corps, an affiliate of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) would do everything within its guidelines to ensure a corrupt free society.
The coordinator, who lamented that corruption had eaten deep into Nigerian society, advised members to give maximum cooperation to curb the menace at the local level.
“You should work as a team and be transparent in carrying out your duties while I implore members to give maximum co-operation and support to the new executives to enable them move the ICPC-NAVC in Asa to a greater height.
“I want to also enjoin the executive being elected today not to see themselves as ‘know it all’. Therefore you should always engage in dialogues with members so as make a success of your tenure”, said the state coordinator.
He identified the roles of the volunteer corps to include advocacy and sensitization of public against corruption through mass mobilisation for national integrity, reporting corrupt practices to the ICPC, fostering public support in the anti-corruption crusade through rallies and other forms of outreach among others.
In his speech, the new local government coordinator for Asa, Mallam Alabi Orire pledged that the newly inaugurated executive members would be good ambassadors of the NAVC.
Orire, who sought the supports of security agencies in carrying out their mandate, promised to cooperate with them in ensuring that corruption was fought to a standstill.
Our Correspondent, reports that Saka Abdulrasheed emerged the Assistant Coordinator, Abdulkareem Jelili and Adelu Adeniyi emerged Secretary and Assistant Secretary respectively.
Others are Salman Shuaib, Treasurer and Isiaka Shehu-Wara as Publicity Secretary.
