The Ogbomoso Community under the aegis of the Ogbomoso Community Foundation (OCF) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for naming the Omi-Adio train station after Chief Ladoke Akintola, the late former Premier of Western region.

Giving the commendation on Wednesday was the leader of the OCF, Major General Oladayo Popoola who was also a former military governor of Old Oyo State.

Gen Popoola said the honour, which was bestowed on other deserving Nigerians such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, late Lagos State governor, Brigadier-General Mobolaji Johnson, All Progressives Congress (APC) leader and former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Lagos governor in the second republic, Chief Lateef Jakande, late woman activist, Mrs Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, among other eminent Nigerians, was deserving considering the mostly understated giant contribution of Chief Akintola to the development of the Western Region which comprised Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States.

“This is really a deserving honour considering the contributions of Chief Akintola to the development of the Western region when he was Premier. On behalf of the Ogbomoso community, I thank the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, President Buhari for this honour. This has clearly shown that the contribution of people like Chief Akintola has not been forgotten”.

The former Governor especially commended the president for his commitment to the giant strides being made by his administration in areas of infrastructural rejuvenation as reflected in the commitment to linking all the major towns and cities with modern train services.

Similarly, the Chairman of OCF, Alhaji Kelani Sanni described the honour as a good gesture from the president and a testimonial to the legacy works of the former Premier. “Naming the Omi Adio railways station is a recognition of the work of dedication to the common good which was the hallmark of the administration of Chief Akintola as Premier. History has been unfair to him considering the giant sstrides made by him at the time. We however thank President Buhari for this gesture”, he said.
