Ondo 2024: Enikuomehin Supports Ondo South, Canvasses For Olusola Oke.
Ondo State All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Dr. Benson Enikuomehin has expressed his preference for Barrister Olusola Oke to take over from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa after the expiration of his tenure later this year.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa succeeded late governor, Rotimi Akeredolu after his demise.
Enikuomehin maintained that minimum educational qualification must be considered before any of the candidates could be given a ticket, which he believes that Olusola Oke has what it takes to take Ondo State to a greater height.
He said that the state can not be trusted in the hands of greenhorns, claiming that the state has come of age since its creation on 3rd February 1976.
Though Enikuomehin, who is a legal luminary, agreed with the zoning of the governorship ticket to Ondo South by his party, the All Progressives Congress, he believes much in Olusola Oke’s manifesto.
He says Oke’s manifesto is extensive and shows a good understanding of issues in every area of the state and that believes that Sola Oke has deep pockets to finance his campaign without the fear of EFCC.
Enikuomehin was quick to add that he has nothing personal against Governor Aiyedatiwa as he was against his impeachment and he fought for him not to be impeached during his political travails.
His position is that he does not want Ondo South senatorial zone to be shortchanged mathematically in the scheme of things in the state as he claimed that previous governors of the state like Olusegun Mimiko came from Ondo Central and spent eight years while the late Rotimi Akeredolu, who spent seven years before his demise, was from Ondo North.
Therefore, he added that Ondo South equally deserves eight years.
He stressed that it was a constitutional provision that made Governor Aiyedatiwa succeed the late Governor Akeredolu but if elected, Gov Aiyedatiwa would only spend one term but two and this would deprive Ondo South of its chance of spending two terms if elected again thereby shortchanging the opportunity of Ondo south senatorial zone instead of the zone to spend eight years like other previous Governors of the state.
He warned his fellow progressive congress members that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is not dead and any mistake in giving APC’s party governorship ticket to the wrong aspirant can be costly.
